After a rocky start to the year, things are thankfully looking up again at our community. Our ongoing weekly testing for all healthcare residents identified no new positive cases of COVID-19 this week. Following some recent recoveries, there’s currently only one active case among residents. We anticipate having no individuals receiving care in our COVID unit after next week.
Furthermore, no positive cases were uncovered among healthcare team members during our twice weekly testing. There are currently eight previously identified positive cases among employees, all of whom are recovering at home.
We’re also thrilled to report that the first round of COVID-19 vaccinations in independent living, which were administered by AuBurn Pharmacy on Wednesday, went very well. Now that all levels of living have been offered their first doses, we are eagerly awaiting the second and final round of immunizations. The second doses are scheduled for:
We remain cautiously optimistic despite the unpredictable nature of the pandemic. As we mentioned last week, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services and other health authorities have not made any changes to safety guidelines for senior living communities. Therefore, safety protocols remain in place at Santa Marta for the foreseeable future. This includes masks, social distancing, and no large gatherings.
Indoor visitations with safety precautions continue in independent living while outdoor visitation for residents in our health center remains temporarily suspended. We continue to strongly encourage window visits, video calls and using social media to safely stay connected with your loved ones.
